In the recently released Physician Licensure Examination results, Vincent Edouard Anthony “Dandan” Retardo Gullas was ranked number 1 – for the second time!
The University of Sto. Tomas (UST) medical school graduate had a score of 90.50% on the recent exam. Out of the 4,064 examinees, only 3,340 passed.
Five years ago, he topped the Medical Technologist Licensure Exam, earning a jaw-dropping rating of 92%. He was a graduate of Velez College in Cebu, finishing his degree with the Latin honor, magna cum laude.
Dandan is the brother of 1st District Cebu Representative Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas, and the grandson of Talisay City Mayor Eddie Gullas. Both politicians posted their congratulations on Facebook on Friday.
Congressman Gullas wrote a heartfelt message for his brother. It read:
“5 years ago my brother Vincent Eduoard Anthony “Dandan” Retardo Gullas took the Med Tech Board Exam after he graduated from Velez College.
He made the family proud when he was number 1 and topped the Med Tech Board Exam 5 years ago.
He then studied to become a doctor at the University of Sto. Thomas. Today, he brings us the same happiness we felt 5 years ago as the Physician Board Exam results are out.
NUMBER 1 YET AGAIN. CONGRATULATIONS DAN!! 🙂
So proud of you brother.”
Mayor Gullas posted a screenshot of his grandson’s name, along with a selfie. He wrote: “My Grandson, Congratulations Dandan!!!”
Gullas comes from a powerful and influential clan in Cebu, whose political clout earned them seats in Congress and mayoral positions. The Gullas family also established the oldest newspaper in Cebu and pioneered private university schooling.
Aside from Dandan, there are five other UST graduates who placed in the top 10 of the board exam passers. Among medical schools, the Cebu Institute of Medicine and Saint Luke’s College of Medicine were the top performing schools with a passing rate of 100%.
