“Tawag ng Tanghalan” grand champion, Noven Belleza is under controversy for allegedly sexually assaulting a 19-year-old girl during a Cebu concert on July 15.
It was the singer’s first time to visit the city. While the performance is ongoing, the women’s desk of Mabolo Police was alerted on a complaint filed against the singer. The complainant said that the assault happened around two in the morning.
At around eight in the evening, the complaining girl went to the authorities’ office to get help regarding the abuse. She was told to undergo a medical examination to prove her claims about the incident.
After the concert, Noven by taken by the police under citizen’s arrest. The authorities were able to get him even without a warrant of arrest due to the existence of a law that a person can be arrested due to the personal knowledge of the victim.
Atty. Leilani Villarino went to the station where Noven was in. She said that the singer was emotional and was in tears. He even looked helpless in his situation.
The alleged suspect said that he was not feeling well at the time of the arrest. He was having chest pain and was rushed to the hospital. The lawyer said he was pale and feeling weak. He has not slept and eaten properly according to the lawyer. She asked the police if they can call for emergency services.
While Belleza was at the hospital, a post regarding the alleged truth about the crime became viral. It was a post called, “The Truth Behind the Case of Noven Belleza” by a netizen called, Rosa. She said she knows the victim and called her, “Ate Ana.” She then told the story of what really happened during the night of the supposed abuse.
However, the post was deleted and the one who posted it claimed that it was incomplete. She even apologized for the wrong information that she has spread.
From rape, the case was reduced to sexual assault. Last Wednesday, Noven showed up at the Regional Trial Court Branch 7 in Cebu to file the case as a bailable offense. According to Atty. Villarino, Belleza’s camp has posted bail.
Noven’s parents continue to to support him in the current challenge he is facing. His father warned him to be more careful next time. On the other hand, his mother still could not believe that her son can do such crime.
