Airport authorities arrested a Brazilian woman who was carrying more than 5 kilograms of high-grade cocaine at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on Saturday, October 15.
The drug courier, identified as Yasmin Silva from Sao Paulo in Brazil, arrived at the airport at 5:30 in the afternoon via an Emirates flight number 332 from Dubai.
According to the Inquirer, Silva was arrested by members of the NAIA inter-agency drug interdiction task group (IADITG) after she claimed her baggage at NAIA 3 luggage carousel. Upon inspection, her bags yielded 5.2 kilos of high-grade cocaine.
The arrest of the female suspect came following a tip from the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (USDEA). A report by the Bureau of Immigration’s Border Management Security Unit (BMSU), it received a message from the USDEA through the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) around 11 a.m. about the arrival of a Brazilian passenger suspected of carrying illegal drugs.
“The subject was traveling from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Dubai to Manila on board Emirates flight no. 332,” the BMSU said.
The suspect has no prior travels to the country before her arrest, according to the Bureau of Immigration.
The seized cocaine was turned over by the NAIA-IADITG to the PDEA, which has taken custody of the suspect.
