A Facebook campaign calling for the renaming of the current Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) back to its original name Manila International Airport (MIA) has been gaining support from many online users.
Late President Ferdinand Marcos issued Executive Order No. 381
promulgating the construction of the Manila International Airport (MIA)
in b. The airport was established to serve the transportation demands of
the Filipino people. After Senator Ninoy Aquino was assassinated at the airport (MIA) in 1983, it was renamed to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Social media users are now clamoring for the airport to be restored to
its original name. The clamor has been gaining grounds from numerous
internet users although it is not clear who started the campaign.
Supporters of the idea argued that when the airport was named MIA, it
has the status of being the “world class and number one airport in
Asia”. When its name was changed to NAIA, it eventually became the
“worst airport in the world.” They also mentioned that NAIA needs
improvements and changes in its management. In addition, they are also
looking forward to the idea of making it the best airport again once its
name is changed back to MIA.
Netizens also claimed that NAIA should have its “jinx” shaken off as the worst airport by having its name be back to MIA.
