Ebidensya ni DOJ Sec. Aguirre sa pagkakasangkot ng ilang LP sa Marawi Crisis inilabas na

The crisis in Marawi has blown out of proportions. Victimized families had been pleading to the Duterte Administration to call off the martial law proclamation. Due to the extent of the damages wrought by the waging war in the south, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre’s knee-jerk response pointed to a destabilization plot allegedly led by Senators Paolo Benigno Aquino IV and Antonio Trillanes IV, Representative Gary Alejano and Aquino government official Ronald Llamas.

Prior to the crisis, Senator Aquino visited Marawi to launch his first “Negosyo Center” in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao. As the author of the “Go Negosyo” law, the first law in the country that focuses on social enterprise, Aquino sought to reach Mindanao and help Filipinos in the south find alternative ways to earn money and promote social service.

However, the visit to Marawi by Aquino led to speculations that he had been secretly meeting with influential Marawi clans to plot against President Duterte. Aguirre was hinting on the possibility that Aquino’s visit perpetrated the hostile acts between the military and Maute group.

Aguirre’s photo “evidence”

Aguirre pushed his argument linking Aquino, Trillanes, and Alejano to the Marawi crisis by showing a photo of Trillanes, Alejano, Zamboanga del Sur Vice Governor Ace Cerilles, Secretary Ronald and former Pampanga Governor Mark Lapid Llamas and mingling together. He also alleged that there was a meeting between the government officials and two influential Marawi clans, the Alontos and Lucmans.

However, it turned out that the photo shown by Aguirre was taken on September 2015 at Iloilo International Airport and not anywhere near Marawi City.

Lawmakers dragged in Aguirre’s denied his allegations of using the Marawi crisis as a plot to destabilize the current administration. They called Aguirre’s reports as “fake news”.

Meanwhile, Cerilles confirmed that he posted that photo two years ago and attached a news article related to the image.

"I have said, this picture was taken Sept. 4, 2015, at Iloilo International Airport when I attended the League of the Municipalities of the Philippines Visayas Conference as the National Treasurer. I don't know why they are trying to link this to the #MarawiSiege. Check your facts!" he said.

On the other hand, Lanao del Sur Vice Governor Mamintal "Bombit" Alonto Adiong, Jr.confirmed that Aguirre called him up to clarify that the media “misquoted” his words and that he did not intend to say that the lawmakers had a secret meeting with any of the family members of the Alontos and Lucmans.

Adiong added that they are doing all efforts to restore normal condition in Marawi City.

The Marawi siege

The clash between military forces, the ISIS-backed Maute group and Abu Sayyaf leaders commenced on May 23. It left 200 people dead. Many families became homeless. The provincial health department has already initiated a de-briefing program to help children who were traumatized by the hostilities.

The firefight occurred while Duterte was on a state visit to Russia. Because of the growing tension in Mindanao at the time, it prompted Duterte to proclaim military rule in the whole of Mindanao.
