Despite the left and right negative news on mainstream media about President Rodrigo Duterte III, we cannot still deny the fact that the man is doing his job well. We can’t say if the media is purposely not exposing his achievements and good works, but supporters are all over social media to prove otherwise.
And just recently, another proof that President Duterte is not just a good leader but also a person with a good heart went viral on social media. This is after the OPM Jukebox King April Boy Regino testifies how the President has helped him in his struggles in life.
During a media get-together dinner in Davao last Friday, Regino was one of the guest singers assigned to entertain the press people. But before he performs his song number, he revealed his heartbreaking struggle with his health and how the President played a big role in his survival.
First, the singer was diagnosed with prostate cancer which led him to quit showbiz and his singing career at an early age; luckily he was able to survive the big C in no time. But in 2015, he was again diagnosed with diabetes which caused him to slowly lose his sight.
Regino said that during that time, he almost lost hope in fighting for his life and would just spend his days crying and locking himself inside the room. He admitted that he also lost his passion for singing.
“Wala na po akong ganang kumanta. Simula po nung nabulag ako eh, para bang nawalan na ako ng pag-asa sa buhay ko, nawalan na ako ng ganang mabuhay, kaya hindi ko na inisip na kakanta pa uli ako,” Regino added.
But his outlook on life changed when one day he received an unexpected phone call from the President.
“Nung panahon na malungkot na malungkot po ako, iyak po ako ng iyak, may isang tao pong tumawag po sa akin. Di ko po akalain na maaalala niya po ako. Ang ating presidenteng Duterte tinawagan po ako,’ he said.
Regino revealed, “Sabi niya po, ‘Bakit di mo sinabi sakin na nabulag ka?’ Sabi ko ‘Pasensya na po kayo wala na po ako sa isip ko e, di ko na po alam gagawin ko.”
Because of that simple phone call from the most powerful person in the country, Regino found strength and purpose to keep fighting for his life, “Ang nagpalakas po ulit ng loob ko ang ating pangulo,” he added.
He also revealed that the President is kind enough to send him monthly allowances so he can eat and avail medical services.
