Pinoy Na Gumawa Ng Action Figure Na Mula Sa Tsinelas Hinangaan Ng Mga Hollywood Stars

When we say that many of our fellow Filipinos’ talents are world-class, we literally mean it–sprinkled with a little pride, because hey, we’re proud to be Pinoy. From Lea Salonga’s top-notch musical performances, to the boxing champ Manny Pacquiao, it is safe to say that our countrymen excels in many diverse fields.

Elmer Padilla, for instance, is a truly talented Pinoy. Recently, he was complimented by none other than Hollywood actor Mark Ruffalo, who portrays the Marvel character “the Incredible Hulk.” This was after Mr. Padilla made a Hulk action figure made out of recycled flip-flops or tsinelas.
In a Twitter post, Ruffalo gave a shoutout to Padilla and commended his creation. Moreover, the figure maker also made another one for Ruffalo’s co-star and the one who portrays “Thor,” Chris Hemsworth.

“Believe it or not, this #Hulk doll is made out of recycled tsinelas (that’s tagalog for flip-flops). Elmer Padilla made this for me so I just wanted to give a nice shoutout. Not only is this inventively creative, but it’s sustainable and just pure awesome! Thank you Elmer!” Said the international actor.
In the same chat, Mark Ruffalo called Padilla a “genius” for using recycled materials to make his toys. On the other hand, the film’s director, Taika Waititi, referred to Padilla’s crafts poster-worthy.

In a separate interview with ABS-CBN News in Sydney, Australia, Hemsworth referred to the Thor figure and acknowledged that he never thought that the handmade toy was crafted from rubber slippers.
“I bet he is fantastic. It looks better than me,” Hemsworth said.
When Padilla learned that ABS-CBN would have the chance to meet the Marvel Studios stars, he started crafting Marvel’s characters with the hope that his rubber figures will be given notice and be accepted.

“Ito po ginawa ko po iyong mga idol ko pong mga character si Thor at si Hulk. Pinangarap ko rin po na sana mabigyan niyong pansin po iyong mga gawa ko dahil idolo ko po kayo,” he said.
Asked when he started making hand-crafted figures, Padilla said it was because of extreme poverty that pushed him to self-produce his toys. At the age of nine, he began making figures by using discarded slippers he found on the street.

He narrated that he studied making the figures by going to toy stores. He would then go home and copy them.
Mr. Padilla said:
“Lumaki po ako na walang laruan kasi po hirap po talaga ang pamilya ko. Mahirap ang kalagayan namin. Ultimo nagkakahalaga ng P10 hindi po mabili-bili.”
“Ang ginagawa ko na lang po hinahawakan ko na lang tsaka tinitingnan. Sapat na sa akin na mahawakan ko siya tapos ginagaya ko na lang po siya gamit mga tsinelas.” .

Padilla initially worked as a construction worker. But later on, he decided to make his hobby a business. That was when he was first started selling the toys on the streets of Imus, Cavite. The photo then went viral and earned him fame.
Today, Padilla is still struggling to make ends meet for his family. In spite of this, he likes to believe that he is a modern-day superhero doing extraordinary things through his own little ways.
What can you say about this? Are you also a fan of the “Incredible Hulk” Mark Ruffalo? Were you inspired by Elmer Padilla’s story? Share your comments and reactions below!
