Recently, a controversial video spread like wildfire on social media. During the short clip, an old woman can be seen risking her life by hanging behind a public utility jeepney because passengers did not offer her a seat inside!
In the short video originally uploaded on Facebook by concerned citizen Maria Elena Paragas, an unidentified old woman can be seen struggling to balance at the back of a public utility jeepney. Because no one offered her a seat, the elderly woman had no other choice but to hang at the back.
What makes it a hundred times worse is the jeepney’s moving while she is hanging precariously at the rear edge. It seems like the elderly woman is clinging for her dear life because one wrong move or slip can send her tumbling to the road bustling with cars.
Furthermore, in the said clip, two seemingly able-bodied men can be spotted sitting near the old woman yet they seem to be oblivious to her pitiful condition. If the driver decides to swerve or stop abruptly, the poor woman is guaranteed to lose her balance and tumble onto the road.

Meanwhile, this controversial video caused an uproar on social media. Many people can’t help but feel upset at the passengers of the jeepney, who didn’t have the common courtesy to offer their seat to the elderly woman.
Netizens who were not able to tolerate this cruel treatment put the blame on the jeepney passengers and the driver as well for letting the old woman hang at the back.
