Senator Alan Peter Cayetano announced last Sunday that cops can get an increase of P50k minimum before Christmas, the increase would be the first step to reach the promise salary of 75k – 100k during the campaign.
“It’s very doable so if we have a supportive House of Representatives and Senate, merong pera, as early as before Christmas, maibibigay na natin ito sa ating mga pulis,” Cayetano said.
“Kung 20% ang buwis, P40,000 iuuwi mo. Ang cost of living sa Metro Manila is P35,000. P35,000 tatlong anak mo, tamang-tama lang yun sa pagkain, pa-gamot, at pag-aaral, bahay,” the senator added.
The Duterte-Cayetano tandem promised during the campaign that in 3 years, cops will have a P75,000 to P100,000 base salary, this would fortify peach-and-order and demotivate police to be corrupt. Duterte would need cops to have the capacity to shoulder the typical cost for basic items with the goal that they would not need to depend on illicit plans and tricks.
In Metro Manila, Cayetano said that, a man would need to burn through P30,000 to P35,000 for his or her family every month. However, a prison guard or a cop could just have P14,000 to P18,000.
