Many netizens are saddened by the story of this father who is now living alone after being rejected by his children and only relying on the alms that people give to him.
In a YouTube vlog of a vlogger named Denso TamMatabyahero, he met Tatay Eddy Gabriel who is asking for alms in the side of the road.
At first, the vlogger only wanted to help the old man by at least giving him something to eat. He then him to eat at the nearest fast-food chain there but Dad Eddy refused.
According to Tatay Eddy, only rich people can eat in the said restaurants so having money that he can use to buy rice is already a big deal for him.
In the said vlog, the vlogger found out that Tatay Eddy was living alone in Libingan ng Mga Bayani. According to the old man, he started to live alone after his children who are currently residing in Cotabato and Davao neglected him.
Tatay Eddy emotionally said,
"Yong mga anak ko sa Davao atsaka sa Cotabato, wala daw silang magawa...
"Iniinom ko nalang ang luha ko po, sir. Pinalaki ko sila, pero ngayon nagpapalimos ako. Pinapabayaan nila ako."
Tatay Eddy also said that it was not the first time that someone gives him help. He said that his story was shared on Facebook twice before, but nothing happened as his children don't want to help him because of their partners.
When he was asked if he wanted to return to the province to be with his children, he pointed out that he doesn't want to go there because he was scared that his child's partner might beat him again.
Tatay Eddy said,
"Gusto ng mga anak ko pero yung mga asawa... mga lalaki, mga adik!"
Tatay Eddy also shared that before he was left alone, asking for alms in the people on the street, he used to work as a carpenter. But because of his poor eyesight, he stopped working.
That's why Tatay Eddy was only relying on the alms that people were giving to him to buy rice.
Tatay Eddy was very grateful to Denso when he gives him money that he uses to buy rice and other necessities. Tatay Eddy even became emotional while accepting the help and asked the vlogger if he was working as a government official.
He said that aside from Willie Revillame, the government officials are only the one giving help to the people.
According to Denso, he will come back if there are people who wanted to extend their help to Tatay Eddy. So, he also asked Tatay his place so he can easily find him once there are people who will give help to him.
