Hindi Na Kasali ang NAIA Sa Listahan Ng "Worst Airport" Nasama Pa Ang 4 Na Provincial Airport Sa Top 25 Best Airport

Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has gained an unsavory reputation both in its home country and abroad. It has made it numerous times onto international lists of the world’s worst airports due to its generally poor maintenance and customer service. However, just this year, it has been excluded from the list of Asia’s Worst Airport Terminals, while four Philippine airports offering domestic flights were included in the 25 best list.

The results were taken from Sleeping in Airports, a travel website, via ABS-CBN. The four provincial airports who were included in the Top 25 best airports in Asia were Iloilo International Airport (12th), Mactan–Cebu International Airport (13th), Davao Francisco Bangoy International Airport (17th), and Clark International Airport (22nd).

The Changi International Airport in Singapore ranked first in Asia’s best. It was followed by South Korea’s Seoul Incheon International Airport, Japan’s Tokyo Haneda International Airport, the Hong Kong International Airport, and Japan’s Tokyo Narita International Airport, respectively.

The report cited that Sleeping in Airports placed NAIA as the fifth worst airport in Asia in 2016 because of the controversial tanim bala scheme that many Filipinos and foreigners alike fell victim to. The report also took note of NAIA’s frequent power outages, lack of air-conditioning, and insufficient seating for customers.

According to Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, “While it is good that we are not listed among the worst, let us work even harder to be included among the best.”

In an additional report from the Philippine Daily Inquirer, the travel website acknowledged that NAIA has been improving since October 2016. The source quoted the following from Sleeping in Airports:
“While some travelers report improvements to the airport structure and facilities since 2011, survey responses this year indicate cleaner bathrooms, more chairs and some general organization of taxis in front of the terminal would help to make life here a lot more manageable.”

What can you say about this, dear readers? Have you been to NAIA lately? Do you believe it has really improved? How about the provincial airports listed as the best in Asia? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!
